The Alpine realm of the High King, at 2941 meters the highest peak in the Bavarian Alps, has two very different faces: a tame one from the north and a powerful, respectful erheischendes - like a royal face - from the south. Here, high above the Pongau and Pinzgau, the mighty mountain king shows off his impressive rock landscape. The two rivers Salzach and Saalach extend around the presented hiking area like two arms. On both sides of the valleys stretches in a horseshoe shape the touring area "around the High King" with the well-known tourist resorts, Bischofshofen, St. Johann, Mühlbach, Maria Alm, Saalfelden and Lofer. For featured hiking areas, but also some of the adjacent stone mountains around Lofer and Leogang, the south of the Tennen Mountains to the ice caves and the forest and meadow peaks of Dientner slate mountains.
