Everyone knows its calling card: the mythical Brocken, where witches and other sinister figures are mischievous. What the Harz has to offer in terms of completely earthly charms is much less known.
Germany's northernmost low mountain range has a perfect holiday program in its program: a network of 8,000 kilometers of hiking trails, challenging mountain bike routes, rugged granite cliffs, many lakes, romantic river valleys, raised moors and heathland for nature lovers.
In addition, the Harz offers more than 20 mines, one of which is even a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as numerous narrow-gauge lines, large Romanesque churches, monasteries and castles, and not least famous half-timbered towns such as Quedlinburg, Wernigerode or Goslar. A special treat is the Halberstadt Cathedral with its impressive treasury.
