The map "The Pamirs" is the result of several years' work by the Swiss cartographer Markus Hauser for the UNESCO project "Cultural and Eco-tourism in the Mountainous Regions of Central Asia and in the Himalayas" beginning in 2004 (now completed). In Tajikistan, the project was implemented by the French NGO ACTED.
This 2nd edition - together with two other maps of Tajikistan covering the north and south of the country - covers all the territory of Tajikistan and neighbouring areas of Afghanistan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan and Uzbekistan. Funding for the printing of this edition was provided by the Swiss Cooperation Office in Dushanbe. The cartographic and editorial work was again done by Markus Hauser.
Tajikistan is a country of mountains, glaciers, deserts and oases, a country with a rich cultural and natural heritage that is waiting to be discovered. Tajikistan is one of the last undiscovered tourist destinations and the Pamirs - mainly located in the autonomous province of Gorno-Badakhshan, in the east of the country - is a jewel among the high mountains of the earth.
